The GEN 3’s panels use heavy-duty aluminum skins with high-density polymer cores, which RealTruck says delivers a 22% bump in overall strength compared to the original. That extra rigidity matters when you’re using the cover as a work surface, hauling plywood and drywall, or running roof rack accessories on top. The matte black powder coat finish holds up to Arizona sun without fading or chalking—important here in Arizona, where UV destroys lesser finishes in a season or two.
Security got a meaningful upgrade. The GEN 3 adds re-engineered lock components to BAK’s patented auto-latching system, so the cover is harder to defeat and easier to use. Close the tailgate, slam the cover, and every panel locks automatically. The matte black finish also makes the cover visually disappear at night, which is a real plus if you keep tools or gear in the bed.
